Meade Telescopes
Meade instruments began sometime in 1972. It
started out by supplying
refracting
telescopes via mail orders. Its initial capital was just
$2500. When it began it was nothing but a one person
business.
The business soon grew. In its first year the sales were
under $8000. Meade was smart to recognize that there was a
great demand for telescope accessories and it realized that
this demand was not being met adequately by the market.
In 1972 Meade added orthoscopic and Kellner
eyepieces and soon after it added precision rack and
pinion focusers, viewfinders, cameras, filters, camera
adaptors and many more of such
accessories.
Astronomy and Meade have
shared a relationship since 1980. It was in 1977 that
Meade Instruments produced their very first in house
manufactured telescope. The Meade models 628 and 826 6”
and 8 “reflecting telescopes were the fist to be
manufactured.
For a long time Meade was considered as the
largest producers of telescopes in the world. By 1995
Meade Industries was no stranger to any part of the
world. Wherever telescopes were sold, a large production
of Meade telescopes was sold.
As compared to other producers, Meade sold the most number
of telescopes around the world.
Meade’s list of its innovations is very
impressive. It is hard to ever believe that sometime at
its origin this company was a mere one man business. Word
spread extremely fast among amateurs about Meads ability
to produce some great quality
telescopes.
In 1978 Meade took on one of its biggest ever
challenges, The Schmidt - Cassegrain telescope
market.
It took three very long years to develop it and
drained them of all their financial as well as
engineering resources. Meade struggled during this
production but never gave up, they were determined to
present to the market it’s the Meade 2080 8” Schmidt –
Cassegrain.
After the announcement of this model in the
market in 1980, meads popularity was at an all time
high.
Every year after that Meade came out with new
telescopes as well as telescope accessories and provided
the finest in terms of quality. In the year 1986 Meade
Industries was acknowledged as the largest and the
leading company in the production of serious telescopes
around the world.
Unlike other telescope companies, Meade has
grown considerably in the last 30 years, the key being
that the company has not wavered on its
quality.
Over the years Meade has come out with new
products but has always maintained its good quality. It
continues to remain a well reputed company in the
production of telescopes.
