The work of a Lawyer on a Space
Project
Remember when a lawyer was someone who wrote up your will
and made sure
your kids got what they were
supposed to when you died? Those days are
gone. Every lawyer who graduates law school with a degree now
has a specialty. This could be real estate,
business, or even space. Yes, space. So what
does the work of a lawyer on a space project consist
of?
To start with, a lawyer is first and foremost concerned with
whether someone is protected in what they
do. This means the lawyer who deals with
space operations will also be dealing with
contracts. These contracts can be between
outside companies and NASA for development and
research.
They can include liability
contracts for outside study programs.
The lawyers Internet Recht for the space
projects are constantly reviewing paperwork and contracts to
ensure the safety of all parties
concerned.
There
is also a few more in depth subjects they deal
with. Space property rights is one of
them. It is estimated that in 2020 there
will be certain elements in place to allow tourism in
space. This means for the right amount of
money, you can go to the
moon.
When
President Bush announced in 2004 that he wanted more
development in space, he really meant it. He
formed the Commission on Implementation of United States
Exploration
Policy.
This
commission started to do research to determine what ways we
could expand space exploration and commercialization from
private entities. This brought in an
entirely new perspective on
space.
With it came the attorneys. The idea was
to limit NASA to what NASA does best and that is protect the
country. It was suggested that more of the
private sector become involved in space
projects.
The
commission determined it would be advantageous to award certain
property rights to those private companies who developed
infrastructures and space resources. As a
matter of fact, this same commission suggested a reward or
prize of one hundred million dollars, and up to one billion
dollars for the first company which was able to actually place
humans on the moon and sustain them for a certain period of
time.
Of course, this would all have to be done and
approved by the work of a lawyer on a space
project. It will be interesting to see
if the government does allow this to
happen.
With
all the government contracts being issued for the space
program, there are teams of lawyers who work for
NASA. Their job is to go over the contracts
to make sure they are iron clad. The first
priority is to safeguard any trade secrets or government
information.
This
is imperative to the success of certain
projects. There are also issues with
satellite installation and space stations currently in
use. The space projects the attorneys work
on are not all about sending people to the
moon.
They can be as simple as how the
telecommunications systems for satellites are being used
and what is being broadcast over them.
As long as there is a space program, there will always be
work for a lawyer on a space project.
